Some awaited news!

Okay... so I said awhile back I have some news that I could not tell you until it was official... well, I have some news to share! Not the news I had planned on (hopefully I can at the end of this month/beginning of next month!) But this is pretty close. =)

I have been hired to take stills for a documentary! We are going to travel around on the weekends to drive-in theaters, running and not. Some are going to be in black and white and others will be taken just as the sun is setting. I am excited and will keep you posted as it goes along! We will probably start in mid to late summer and we have a year because it is going to be showm at a film festival in Colorado next year!!

Meet the Photographer!

This Memorial Day weekend I spent with my Nana and she wanted to do a photo shoot of me. I took her up on the opportunity because one, I think it's fun, but two, it really puts me in the subject seat and three, I figure that one is most critical of their own pictures... so maybe I can find things that I don't like about mine and prevent those from happening to others. And it's weird, because I find that when I am in front of the camera, my creativity locks up (and I'm not sure if it's because of my shyness or inexperience of being in front of the camera or what), but my mind goes blank. Anyway, here are a few shots that my Nana captured (view her flickr website at www.flickr.com/lindagail)...

When Life (and stupidity) get in the way....

Today I was suppose to do an executive photo shoot for a very good friend. We have been talking about it for a couple of months and finally set a date this past Wednesday! Well... I came home from work, made sure my camera and lens were clean, got everything together and went out to the garage to get a table... when I started to come back in the house, the door had shut and well, it's one of those that stays locked but can open from the inside. My fiance and I talked about how dangerous that would be when we moved in and talked about replacing it and never got around to it. He happened to be out of town (ok... out of state) and the only other person who has a key is his father who is with him... so, there I am, stranded with absolutely no way to get back into our condo. I knock on a neighbors door who I have not officially met yet, but they do not hear me. I find a couple of other neighbors who are walking their dogs. Mark and I wave and chatted to one but did not know her name. I told them the situation and they thought they might be able to find someone who could help me. So, I follow them around the neighborhood (with no shoes, btw) and we run into a guy who they were thinking might be able to help. Anyway... three hours later, and we're still not in the house (but close...the power drill had was not charging fast enough). I finally have my fiance call some of his friends to see if anyone can come over and help me finish breaking into our own home (My phone was inside as well... so I was using my kind neighbors). Anyway, the guy who I was suppose to take pictures for ended up coming over and helping me get into my house...

So, I'm back in... but we have to reschedule the pictures to I'm not sure when and I'm very sad and I feel so bad. My only hope is that I learn enough from now and then to have AMAZING pictures for him. (Oh, and we're finally replacing that lock with one that stays locked!!!)

I'm an Auntie!

Sorry I haven't posted in a little while... picture taking has been a little slow lately, unfortunately. But I did get to visit my nephew last weekend for the first time which was SOOOO exciting!!! I got quite a few pictures of him, but the lighting was poor and I did not bring anything else besides the 5-in-1 reflector which helped quite a bit. I worked for several hours on one particular photo, cutting it out and pasting it onto a black background, then erasing the edge at about 90something% transparency to make it blend into the background a little more. Posted it onto facebook and then it poofed... said it could not be found. Not sure how it could not have been saved on my computer if I was able to upload it to facebook. Was pretty sad, though. I saved the picture from facebook but it's obviously not very high quality.
